Sewing Bug skips generations- at least in MY family.........true story! lol

They say that talents will skip generations in families. I am beginning to believe this! lol  Kelsey has developed a new ' bug'...........a Sewing Bug!! lol  Last night at her Brownie meeting they made little heart pillows. The little girls helped their leader with the sewing machine sewing the heart, stuffed it and then with help sewed up the remaining heart.  Well the majority of the girls just kind of gave up and let the adults 'finish up'. Not Kelsey! There was a wonderful lady there last night as a guest of a couple of the girls. She was very helpful and showed Kelsey how to get started. She stuck to it and sewed it all by herself!  I was really proud of her..........my stitches weren't much better sadly! haha  You see on that generation thing.........My Great Grandma Luna Grace was a seamstress and taught my mom how to sew as a little girl. Together they made a lot of her clothing and doll clothing. It was a wonderful skill my mom used for many years making goodies for my siblings and I!  Now my Grandma Martha did NOT have the patience for sewing and maybe could sew a button.  I personally did not have the eye/hand coordination as a kid. LOL  I remember a rather embarrassing incident that happened in jr high home ec class. I'd been sick missing a few days and we were making gym bags (of all difficult things.) LOL  I was completely LOST and my mind was just not grasping the concept. Well to catch up I had to have the HELP of the boy I had a huge crush on!!!  I'm telling ya I think he was a lot better than me. haha Well I think I was scarred for life by that. Oh the humiliation!! lol  I gotta admit I DID like the attention he HAD to give me! haha Geesh! I blush just thinking about that. Poor guy........So to THIS day I have been most likely 'afraid' to step out and attempt sewing. Now don't get me wrong I can sew on a button........a straight line of stitches. But no great seamstress I am! Are you seeing a generational pattern here?  Great Grandma=seamstress, Grandma=Not so much, Mother=seamstress,  ME = again Not so much and now Kelsey and Marissa both enjoy sewing! In fact as sick as Kelsey is today she wanted to sew while lounging on the couch. Bless her heart!   They have the Sewing Bug.........So I'm thinking maybe I need to get my head out from under the sand........put my thinking cap on and start a sewing circle with my girls.........shoot maybe we'll even attempt knitting and crocheting!  I hear there are great Youtube tutorials for that! haha  I'm tired of not 'TRYING" new things out of fear of the unknown...I can't worry about if I'm gonna fail or not- I may just have a new found love in a hobby!!....How many of us are stuck in that rut?!  Time to break this generational sewing cycle! lol :)
My home is quiet today from the little pitter patter of extra little feet- don't want to spread the pukies!.  Kelsey is home with a stomach bug & has been planted on the couch all day. I hate when my girlies are sick but am very thankful for the health they have on a regular basis! So many children deal with lengthy or terminal illnesses.........I have so many blessings to be grateful for! So today I will play Nurse Neecie for my sweet little girl (yeah she's even sweeter when she's sick- when she gets grumpy I know she's feeling better! LOL  Why is that?!) She just grabs her little red Folger's puke pail and is good to go. :P  And this too shall pass...........Hopefully with a little TLC she will bounce back tomorrow!

Mushy Smushy Valentine's Day Rut I'm in...Help?! LOL.....

I can't believe it's already February! It seems like just last week it was Christmas..........now we are getting ready to venture into the month of LOVE.......awww Valentine's Day and all kinds of other mushy smushy stuff!! lol  Do you get excited about this holiday? Or as my hubby calls it "An excuse for card companies, chocolate & floral businesses to make more money!"  Such a romantic soul he is......Oh in our first few years of marriage he'd do some sweet things.........flowers, going out for dinner (Without kids) and cards.  But I tend to be somewhat frugal minded and think of just WHAT I could buy with those roses that might cost a half weeks worth of groceries......LOL  I have finally convinced him that carnations are much more appreciated if truly necessary to purchase. (which I DO love on occasion)  They last much longer........my girls even like receiving them from him on their birthdays. I Would like to plan something this year to surprise him.........His birthday falls a few days before Valentine's so maybe I will try to come up with something fun and romantic. Lord knows we like probably many others have gotten caught in the 'Rut of Life'.........like that movie 'Ground Hog Day' with Bill Murray where he wakes up and does the same day over and over and over......sometimes I feel like that! Anyone else with me on that?!! I need some Clever Ideas to Spice up my Valentine's.........any helpful ideas?!!  :)

So I'm gonna be a blogger.......

I really enjoy gabbing and tend to babble quite a bit on my statuses. So I decided to try my hand at blogging. A way to write my thoughts down about random things in life. Maybe it will be therapeutic to my soul to pour out my inner thoughts on paper.......well um cyber space. LOL  I may have days I am thoughtful and insightful..........and then others I come across as a total goofball. I like having fun in life and making people happy is what I strive to do.  Life is too short to let the cares of life take it's toll. And believe me it is so easy to do.  I'm totally new at this and would love to have a really fancy & cool looking Blog/website.........but this is a start. I will begin here..........any suggestions or helpful hints as to setting one up are highly welcomed. I am NOT a computer expert and am pretty much self taught...... I just hop on the ol puter and explore.........can be interesting at times!! lol  I AM proud that I figured out THIS MUCH!  haha :) So welcome to my chatter time..........hope you enjoy! :)
